and how they play a role in nearly every aspect of your public and
private life, look no further than the general welfare clause. The
prevailing view on both sides of the aisle is that Congress’s power to provide for the
“general Welfare” is a power to spend for virtually anything that
Congress itself views as helpful. This view is incorrect and
dangerous. Let me explain why!
